Meet the Leaders

 

KYLE LOCKE

University of Michigan, B.A., History, Relay Graduate School of Education, M.A.T., Secondary Social Studies Education

While in Ann Arbor completing his major in history and minor in Spanish language, literature, and culture, Kyle studied abroad for a semester in Segovia, Spain. After graduating, he was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to teach English at a public high school in Madrid for a year, and traveled extensively throughout the country. Upon returning to the U.S., Kyle taught Spanish at a high school in southeast Detroit for two years before moving to New York to teach AP world history in Brooklyn. In New York, he took his teaching to the next level and earned his master’s in secondary social studies education. In his spare time, Kyle loves playing and writing songs on the guitar and staying active. Kyle is fluent in Spanish. This fall, Kyle will return to Brooklyn to assume the role as Director of Special Projects for Uncommon Collegiate Charter High School.

ELIZABETH STOEBEL

University of New Hampshire, B.A., Spanish, University of New Hampshire, M.A.T., Secondary Education

While at the University of New Hampshire, Elizabeth studied abroad in Spain, Chile, and Mexico, and focused on adolescent development in schools, clubs, and other group settings. After completing her master’s degree, Elizabeth lived and worked at a boarding school in Rhode Island for four years. There she taught Spanish, served as a dorm parent in the freshman boys’ dormitory, coached cross country, and organized the school’s Weekend Activities program. In 2014, Elizabeth received a fellowship to attend Columbia University’s Klingenstein Summer Institute. There she met with professors and other early career teachers to discuss successful classroom environments and student needs. Currently Elizabeth teaches Spanish at a middle school in New Hampshire, while also coaching track and leading the Rubik’s Cube Club. She has spent the past five summers in Spain and has led high school students to Seville, Spain. Elizabeth is fluent in Spanish and proficient in German and has led Putney’s Language Learning Spain program.
