Hiking in the Picos de Europa

This blog features student writing.

Hi I’m Annie and I live in Chicago. I chose this program because I wanted to learn more Spanish and explore the culture. In this picture we were hiking to our lunch spot in the Picos de Europa. For lunch we were given sandwiches from the hotel and we were able to refill our water from the natural spring. During lunch we all took turns practicing our Spanish with our guide, Oscar. We were finishing our sandwiches when someone asked Oscar about his favorite song, which happened to be Despacito, which means “slowly” in Spanish. He only knew the one word of the song and the entire rest of the hike he would always start singing the song, but only repeating “Despacito,” which was fitting with the very tough trail. Although it was a six hour hike, it was a great bonding experience for the group and was a fun day. Tomorrow we are heading for Madrid and will start a phase of the trip that I am looking forward to.

Hi, I’m Cristian and I live in Florida. I chose this program to improve my level of Spanish. In this picture we were hiking in the Picos de Europa. I was able to talk to my guide Oscar during the hike about the differences between Spain and Florida in Spanish. It was good practice for me and a good conversation for Oscar. In this picture we are all posing on rocks and we are all surrounded by cows, horses and sheep. Our hike was breathtaking with the amount of views, and even though the hike was six hours long, it was still very fun. I am going to go to Madrid with my fellow students and I cant wait for more excitement.
